St Teresa's Catholic Primary School

Curriculum

At St Teresa’s, we are committed to building knowledge and nurturing a lifelong love of learning in every child. Our carefully sequenced curriculum ensures that all children have a strong foundation in core subjects while also being provided with opportunities to explore and develop their individual interests in foundation subjects.

Through each stage of learning, we focus on developing the whole child – spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. We believe in fostering responsibility, respect and resilience, allowing our students to develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

With this intent, we aim to create a positive and inclusive learning environment to help all children reach their potential whilst preparing them for success both in school and beyond.

We gather evidence from a variety of sources and perspectives within our school community to evaluate and refine our curriculum. These include:

  • Learning walks
  • Regular recall and retrieval activities
  • Targeted questioning
  • Ongoing teacher assessment and formal testing at summative points
  • Analysis of data
  • Questionnaires for parents, teachers and pupils
  • CPD both internal and external
  • Moderation of work both internal and external

We use the information to review our curriculum offer and to inform our strategic subject planning, making adaptions where necessary.

We know our curriculum is effective when we see:

  • Children progressing and becoming responsible and resilient learners where children ask the questions and drive the direction of learning
  • Children can recall facts, make connections and apply skills
  • Children are enthusiastic and active learners who aren’t afraid to make mistakes but want to challenge themselves
  • Learning being reviewed and refined to better meet the needs of our children
  • Children who are challenged and achieve success
